Made in Japan in the 1990's, this ST-72SC was Fender Japan's scalloped '72 reissue Stratocaster that had a traditional scallop profile rather than the slanted Blackmore style seen on most. Appears to be an alder body bolted to a maple neck with a 21 fret slab rosewood fingerboard, it weighs 3.4kg's. The pickups appear to be the original Japanese ST-VINTAGE single coils and it's loaded with a set of aftermarket CTS pots, Sperzel USA locking tuners and a two-point tremolo system with roller saddles.
The previous owner seemingly had the neck professionally stripped back and re-lacquered with a new headstock deal, however the serial number was also removed during this process. The neck stamps all match and are genuine for a Fender Japan built from the 1990's but there's no way for us to provide an exact date. The body also looks to have been refinished in a low gloss black.
Apart from the refinish and mods it's in great players condition with shiny hardware, polished frets and no notable damage as pictured. Given a full setup and service prior to listing, the neck is straight and the truss adjusts as it should and the frets have life left with some light pitting/playwear.
