1985 Fender Japan TN70-EX Thinline Telecaster (Mahogany)
A great example of well used guitar that's been kept up to date over the years. 30+ years of solid use, this is a mid 1980's Fender TN70-EX thinline model made by the famous Fujigen factory in Japan. Loaded with plenty of bite and twang while still retaining the warmth of a hollowbody.
Dark mahogany finish semi hollow body with a maple neck and fingerboard. 7.25" radius with a smooth C profile that feels comfortable in any hand. Weighs 3.2kg's.
Has seen some modifications over the years. The original bridge (that would have had a stamped serial number on it) has been replaced with a modern bridge. The pots were upgraded to CTS and are dated 1999, so that's likely when the bridge was replaced too. The pickups are seemingly original and the tuners are the original Gotoh's. The "Made in Japan" insignia was also scratched off by a previous owner, this happened often as Japanese guitars had a stigma about them back in the 80's.
How have we dated it to the mid 1980's? The serial number moved from the bridge to the back of the neck in the 1990's/2000's. The neck and body stamps are also a perfect match to the verified A series models of 1985 that we've seen over the years. This ticks all the boxes and is 100% made in this period, that's our guarantee as reputable dealers that specialise in Japanese gear!
Neck is straight and plays well, frets are on the low side but play well as is. Fretboard wear is cosmetic and doesn't impact on playing. Received a basic service and restring prior to being listed.
