1985 Fender Japan TL67-65SPL E Series Keith Richards Telecaster (Sunburst)
1985 Fender Japan TL67 Keith Richards
The Fender Japan reissue of Keith Richard's "Sonny" is an incredibly rare instrument. Mostly known for his blonde 1953 Fender Telecaster, this was the other famous Keith Tele that does not get talked about much (maybe due to the fact Fender USA never reissued it?). This particular guitar was made in 1985 and is part of the famous E Series. Has "ORDER MADE" stamps in the neck and body pockets, indicating that it was a custom order for a customer or store and is likely one of the first of these models to hit the market.
Named the TL67-65SPL, these guitars used a nice heavy Asian Ash (Sen) body with a nice 67 type Maple D-shape neck, gold bridge and Japanese made Gotoh style tuners. Weighs 4.2kg's. Spec sheets would also indicate a 7.5" radius fretboard, 21 Vintage frets, 42mm nut width.
Pickguard was replaced over the years and the bridge pickup was upgraded to a LACE (with a gold font to match the bridge!).
I'm in no way a Rolling Stones fan, but i absolutely love this guitar as a Telecaster ready for a modern setting!
Good overall condition as pictured with no major dings or dents.
Frets have plenty of life left in them and are level and smooth. Neck is straight. Has some light ageing but nothing noticeable in the hand.
