1981 Tokai Japan Love Rock LS-60 Vintage Les Paul (Goldtop)
Made by Tokai's Japanese factory in 1981, the LS series were some of the best Gibson style guitars from the period (and that includes Gibson USA models..). This is a goldtop LS-60 model with a mahogany back and maple top with a poly finish. Rounded (but reasonable slim) one-piece mahogany neck with an 14 degree headstock pitch, dark rosewood fretboard with 22 frets. Loaded with the original GOTOH pickups and all original pots/wiring. Weighs 4kg's.
These spared no expense in emulating the Gibson design and features Trapezoid inlays, Les Paul font and an open book headstock. There's a reason these are so desirable amongst vintage buyers!
This guitar was lucky enough to receive a full overhaul and rebuild from Ruben Guitars in Melbourne (an expert in high end and bespoke builds and repairs with a resume that includes time spent as the head of repairs at Maton and work with prolific musicians including Paul Kelly, Powerfinger and Keith Urban). This work was done just before listing (May 2020).
This specific guitar received a full teardown and a headstock repair/refinish so it's smooth/strong/undetectable to the touch. The finish was also buffed/sanded to a high gloss and some binding was repaired (i'm actually struggling to find where, that's how good the work was done..). The guitar also received a full setup including truss adjustment/intonation/action along with a light fret dress and crown. It's a stunning vintage guitar that's been brought back to near new condition and given new life.
