1978 Greco Japan EX800W Explorer (Aged White)
Made by the Fujigen in February of 1978, the EX800W was a non-catalog variant of the Greco EX range to feature a white finish. Sen (ash) body with a maple neck and a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard (9.5" radius, 44mm nut width), it weighs 3.9kg's. Loaded with the original Maxon PU humbuckers and Greco stamped tuners.
This one came to us in a very sorry state and was completely rebuilt by our in-house tech Vaughan. The fretboard was completely re-radiused to remove a very shallow scallop attempted by the previous owner. There's still plenty of depth left in the neck with all the inlays on both the top and side of the neck still perfectly visible. The back of the neck was lightly sanded and buffed back to a satin feel along with the paint being removed from the side of the fingerboard to create a smoother playing experience. It was then re-fretted with brand new jumbo frets and set-up with a smooth low action. Cosmetically there are plenty of bumps and bruises on the finish as pictured.
