1974 Fernandes FTE-70 Telecaster Sunburst (Made in Japan)
1974 Fernandes FTE-70
Japanese made in 1974, this is one of the high-end Fernandes guitars on offer at the time. Here's the highlights that separate this guitar from the pack:
- Double binding with a 3-tone sunburst finish.
- Rare Fender-style headstock logo.
- 4.5kg total weight, maple neck and body.
- New potentiometers and a Sprague Orange Drop tone capacitor.
These are an exceptionally rare guitar, not many were made and they don't come up for sale often!
The guitar itself has been well looked after and is in good vintage condition. The binding has some aged cracking but nothing major, finish has a couple dings but is glossy and clear. Frets play fine as is but are a little low, the neck has a nice round, thick profile.
With the poor quality coming out of the Fender factory in the 1970's, buying a Japanese guitar from this period can be a much better choice. The Japanese factories were producing high quality instruments throughout the 1970's, whereas the cost-cutting measures that CBS had implemented on Fender had a huge impact on the quality and consistency of their instruments. If you're after a vintage Fender-style guitar from the 1970's then you'll save money and gain quality in buying a Japanese guitar like this!
